Girls' Varsity Volleyball - November 28 '07 - eSportsline

Well, the good news is, and I quote, “At least we won’t have to travel to the fricking Oregon border.” The other good news is that though there was disappointment in the BCL-W championships, a measure of redemption was earned as the team battled with strong showings in the NCS Regional Championships and finished the 2007 season 24-10, a record with which one can be proud.

The UHS Red Devils ended the regular season tied for first with an 11-1 league record. As the one seed for the BCL-West championships, the team earned a bye to begin bracket play in the semis. Unfortunately, they lost a heartbreaker to Convent. It may have been an ominous sign for the evening when earlier in the preceding match, MA as the favored two seed lost to Urban.

Girls' Varsity Field Hockey - November 28 '07 - eSportsline

By Bill and Allyson Shea

The UHS varsity field hockey team finished the 2007 season with a 7-11-4 record, a major improvement over the 2006 season. Playing mostly larger schools on “enemy fields”, UHS was competitive in most games with 8 of the 11 losses by two goals or less.

Nine seniors played their last field hockey games for UHS, including; Co-captains Ale V-J, Rachel S and Allyson S; Allegra C-C, Mollie C, Kristine M, Brennan V, Alex H and Laura W. The players would like to thank coaches Stacey S and Mary Beth N for making their senior season memorable.

Girls' Varsity Tennis - November 28 '07 - eSportsline

By Sarah Challinor

The UHS Girls Varsity Tennis Team ended the season with a tremendous effort. They were runners up for the BAC Championship, losing a well fought match to MA 3-4. Their grace in defeat was exemplary. They played extremely well in the early rounds of the tournament beating Urban 5-2 but more even more gratifying was their 6-1 victory over Lick ,to whom they had lost earlier in the season 1-4. The entire team played well and it was wonderful they were able to avenge their previous loss.

Freshman Grace made it into the semi-finals of the Individual Singles BAC tournament, thereby attaining All-League honors. Seniors Isabelle and Clare, won the doubles portion of the tournament, becoming 1st team All-League, and earning the privilege of representing the BAC in the NCS tournament. Anna also won All-League honors.

Girls' JV Volleyball - November 28 '07 - eSportsline

By Sally Shapiro

The JV Volleyball Devils closed out their season with a loss to Lick in a closely contested game on November 2nd. This game followed a heartbreaking loss to MA on Halloween.

The team finished up their season with a solid 6-6 record in league play and a 9-10 record overall. Their growth as a team and skill development as individuals over the course of the season was phenomenal. Congratulations to the team for a great season, and thanks to coaches Jenny and Sarah for their time and talents with this young team.

Thanks also to all the parents that helped out with transportation and support.

Basketball Kicks Off New Season - November 28 '07 - eSportsline

By Meghan Sullivan

Depth seems to be the word that best describes this year’s Running Red Devils Boys Varsity Basketball team. Nine returning seniors are joined by four juniors and one freshman as the season gets underway with the first game Saturday, November 24th. This is the first varsity squad in several years to make room for a freshman player, but as Head Coach Randy B. explains, he follows no moral obligation when it comes to assigning minutes. Expect another exciting, fast-paced, aggressive style of play with lots of substitutions. Last year’s team won twenty games but came up short in the post season. This year Co-Captain Evan S. says the goal is the league title.
