Biography:
Lalitha Shastri is a consultant on diversity and multicultural education in
independent schools. She taught for six years in an independent school in
the Southeast, where she also served as Diversity Coordinator and faculty
representative on a Board subcommittee for diversity initiatives. Lalitha’s
areas of expertise are diversity dialogue, multicultural curriculum, and
hiring and retention of faculty and staff of color. She currently resides
in Columbia, South Carolina.
Workshop Description:
Conference participants will explore paradigms and strategies for hiring, supporting
and retaining faculty and staff of color in Bay Area independent schools.
In small- and large-group discussions, conference participants will learn
(1) how a school’s culture impacts hiring practices, (2) paradigm shifts
essential to hiring and retention and (3) practical strategies for seeking,
hiring, supporting and retaining faculty and staff of color. Participants
will receive handouts of the entire session, as well as an extensive list
of resources.
